Sleman (27/02), Industry 4.0 has become a major revolution in the development of human life. Digital technology has been influencing humans in various aspects from economic, social, political and even in the life of human as individual itself. Moreover Industry 4.0 does not develop by itself but rather with the existence of a society that continues to learn and grow. It is because the relationship between industry 4.0 and the society is a reciprocal relationship that must be maintained and developed. In regards of the society development, Japan as a developed country that is known to find a variety of advanced technologies has introduced the concept of Society 5.0. The concept has changed the people to the point of being able to use information to improve their welfare. Then is Indonesia able to reach this 5.0 Society?
The General Lecture, “Industry 5.0 and Society 5.0 for Indonesia” was delivered by Prof. Jay R Rajasekera, Ph.D., an honorary professor from Tokyo International University with Wakhid Slamet Ciptono, Ph.D. as the moderator. Many students and alumni of MEP FEB UGM attended the lecture in the Mubyarto Auditorium at MEP FEB UGM. In his remarks before the lecture, Wakhid explained the importance of Industry 4.0 for Indonesia at this time. Hopefully Indonesia is able to keep abreast of the concept.
In his presentation, Prof. Jay stated how the development of technology and Japanese society to date has been able to take advantage of big data for the welfare of its people. “Japan is able to produce important components that are used by large companies throughout the world which cannot be produced by other countries, this is the fruit of the concept of Society 5.0 that is able to excel the country” he said.
Prof. Jay also narrated the history of Japan which experienced a lot of developments from Society 1.0 to Society 5.0, as well as differences in Society 4.0 and Society 5.0. “The Society 4.0 relies on automation, robots, the internet, the global supply chain, and also big data generated from internet information, but in Society 5.0, big data has developed significantly, big data is formed from sensors, connected through the internet of things, analyzed using artificial intelligence and used for the welfare of society, ” he added.
